Q Is there a recommended amount of money to bring with me while volunteering at the Option Institute?
A Your
work week will be approximately 39 hours.
As part of your work week, you will also
be attending at least 4 hours of class time
and will receive an hour or more of dialogue
practice each week.
Q Will I be able to participate in any of the programs being offered while I am volunteering?
A The Volunteer Department has a specifically designed class schedule separate from that of the Adult Programs, which may be running at the time. However, if you wish to take one of our Adult Programs during your volunteer term, we would encourage you to do so. The volunteers who have combined both programs have found this to be a deeply enriching experience.
Q Will I be able to volunteer regularly in the Son-Rise Program® so I can gain knowledge of what the Son-Rise Program® does?
A As a volunteer, you will have a class where you will learn more about the Son-Rise Program®. But actual interaction with that part of the Institute is limited.
Q Can I exchange work I do for any of the programs being offered now or later at the Option Institute?
A Your volunteer term may not be used as an exchange for other programs. However; after completion of an entire term, you will receive a $375 certificate which can be used towards tuition for an adult program.
Q How many hours of work can I expect to do in any given week?
A Your work week will be 35 hours. In addition, you will receive 3.5 to 4 hrs of class time and a 50 minute dialogue each week.
Q What
happens if I work any extra hours?
A You can accrue comp time and use that time however you please, but it must be approved by your supervisor.
Q Is there any flexibility to the start date of the term I want to volunteer in?
A Yes, we understand that certain flight and other travel arrangements may create a delay in your term beginning date. Just let us know and we are open to supporting you in this way.
Q Does The Option Institute provide transportation to and from the Institute?
A No, all volunteers arrange all their own travel to and from the Institute.
Q Are vegetarian meals available for someone who only eats vegetarian?
A Yes, a vegetarian option will be served at every meal.
Q Are there any leisure activities a volunteer can do with his/her time off?
A Yes, volunteers typically will get together and go into our nearby towns for bowling, skiing, swimming or other area activities just a short distance away. Please take a look at the section of webpage devoted to what to do in the area. OR visit our Community Information Page for further details.
Q If I love my time at The Institute, is it possible to extend my volunteer term?
A ABSOLUTELY! Quite often volunteers come and have such a great time they extend their stay.
