The Option for Business program provides a powerful resource for business leaders and HR professionals to ignite their employees’ passion, ingenuity and desire. Who We Are
The Option Institute International Learning and Training Center is a not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1983 by bestselling authors Barry Neil Kaufman and Samahria Lyte Kaufman. Thousands of individuals and professionals have taken our programs and used The Option Process® to become energized, empowered and utterly transformed. The Kaufmans’ books, works and programs have been endorsed by such well–respected figures as President Jimmy Carter, Coretta Scott King, Deepak Chopra, Harold S. Kushner and Lou Holtz.
The Option Institute Difference
The Option Institute has 80 teachers and associates on staff. These individuals are dedicated employees, not guest lecturers or temporary help. Thanks to their experience and continuity of instruction, our clients enjoy an unparalleled experience in inner-strength training.

Our programs are engaging, interactive and dynamic. We believe in experiential training versus conventional lectures and seminars. Participants are not just observers, but rather active contributors to the overall process.
Our spectacular 100-acre campus — nestled in the Berkshires and within a three-hour drive of Boston and New York City — provides a perfect setting for de-stressing, learning and growing (personally and professionally).
Professional Summits
The Option for Business program is segmented into three distinct tracks that can be chosen in alignment with overall corporate goals or for specific individuals. Each of these tracks has a series of courses that build in scope and intensity (from 100-level to 400-level programs). Courses may be taken a la carte for immediate benefits or as a complete sequence tailored by our program coordinators and pursued over time. You may choose to send entire teams to explore challenges and opportunities together, or individual employees to develop themselves in the anonymity of a larger mixed group. Each track leads to a Summit or Master Level course.

Master Level: The Mastery of Yourself track develops empowered individuals who fully own who and how they are regardless of circumstances. Individuals completing this track learn to be comfortable and confident in any professional situation, make clear and insightful decisions (even when the pressure is on) and effectively communicate (both speaking and listening). The Master Level course of this track, Wide Awake, is a dynamic, daring and challenging program that inspires participants to an unprecedented level of self-awareness and effectiveness. |
Master Level: The Option Process® Dialogue offers an unparalleled capacity to help individuals root out and overcome beliefs, behaviors and attitudes that limit performance and put a glass ceiling on what can be accomplished. The Option Process gets to the root of issues rather than simply addressing symptoms such as poor performance, low morale or lazy thinking. What results is lasting change in the areas explored. Ideally suited for managers, HR professionals, team leaders and consultants, the Working with Individuals track leads to mastery of this powerful technique. The Master Level course, Mentor Certification, is a month-long intensive, providing expert proficiency in The Option Process Dialogue. |
Master Level: In the Working with Groups track, participants will become adept at using The Option Process teaching techniques to awaken the fire of ambition, the hidden brilliance and the unlimited potential of the people around you. Whether managing a group, spearheading a critical project, or running a company, the Working with Groups track helps participants become more powerful, innovative and effective facilitators and leaders. The Master Level course of this track is Group Facilitation Training. |

The 100 level programs provide a foundation in various applications of The Option Process® . These programs require minimal preparation on the part of the participants.

“In my work as Director of I.T. for a large multinational corporation, I was having a problem with my managers making decisions that benefited their own units at the expense of overall corporate goals. I spent lots of time explaining the importance of the overall goals and they would express their support and agreement. But then a situation would come up, and again they would make decisions to the contrary in ‘this one case.’ This one case was almost all the time. This would lead to my lecturing and debating, not solving the problem.
After taking courses at The Option Institute such as Empower Yourself and Radical Authenticity, I began to realize things about my own behavior. While watching the teachers talking with students about their beliefs, I often assumed I knew what the students were going to say and was surprised when I was dead wrong. Through my work at The Option Institute, I realized I could be a much more effective manager if I applied the The Option Process approach of listening in a non-judgmental, accepting manner. I did not believe these qualities would work in a business environment. Nevertheless, I decided to try it.
In meetings, it was difficult for me to break my own pattern of behavior. I developed a private technique of pushing my chair back from the table to remind myself that I wanted to behave differently. Then I would simply ask questions about their decisions, being careful to listen and not make judgments. The results were amazing. The meeting participants began to discover for themselves what they believed wasn’t true. They discovered new approaches that worked to meet everyone’s goal. Eventually, meetings became much more productive through The Option Process of listening more to each other and exploring the group’s beliefs together. This approach has enabled us to build team consensus beyond what I would have thought possible!”
